WORKSHOP Sarajevo 16-18 September 2006

The workshop is open to all those who, independently of previous dance experience, want to explore new dimensions of themselves and experiment new forms of expression and dialogue through the use of the body and its movement.

Contemporary dance is seen as an expressive language in which different grammars and philosophies converge. The aims of the workshop are to explore the grammar underlying this language, to trasmit a working methodology which enables to continuously create new, individually appropriate declinations of this language, the research of group harmony and the development of the skills of interaction, listening and observation through the use of the senses in time and space.

The first part of the workshop will focus on general principles of contemporary dance technique, aimed at increasing the awareness of certain fundamental characteristics of the body: the alignment of the skeleton and weight, in order to improve the balance between strength and energy in every single movement.

In the second part of the workshop, the basic principles of contemporary dance will be further explored, developed and applied in a structured choreographic composition, using dynamics, impulses, and the relation to space and gravity.

The third part of the workshop introduces improvisation, in order to stimulate the exploration of a personal movement dynamic starting from certain common stimuli, to create one’s own language of movement, to amplify the relation of the body to time and space and to improve the awareness of oneself and others, discovering the possibilities of movement and imagination.
